Buggy spreadsheets
This article on The Register is slightly dry reading, but anyone who uses spreadsheets (or any other customisable software, such as databases) should really take note. Many businesses rely on financial spreadsheets – but research shows that more than 90% of them contain errors. And an error in a spreadsheet will render its results incorrect.
Simply put, programming (which is effectively what writing a spreadsheet or database is) is not something you can simply “pick up”. You have to know what you’re doing. Fortunately, there are some useful advice links from the above article. Read them. You owe it to yourself.
